An Italian start up proposes its online industrial symbiosis platform to companies to improve their recovery and recycling of materials under license agreement

Summary: This Italian start-up promotes the recovery and recycling of materials and supports companies in reducing their resource consumption. It has developed an online platform to help enterprises to characterize their waste and matching their materials with logistics partners, transformation industries and new industrial users. The start-up aims at scaling industrial symbiosis beyond the national territory. The cooperation is envisaged under a license agreement. Description Description:

The Italian start-up was born in 2019 and aims at supporting enterprises to become circular in an industrial symbiosis framework. The digital tool developed analyses waste production of industries, using data relating to waste quantitative (ton), qualitative characteristics (according to the European Waste Catalogue), and the type of company involved, to search for the best match. Moreover, based on the inserted information, an estimation of the impact that the suggested path could have on the environment will be provided.

Although the companies registered on the platform are only Italians at present, the platform can be exploited also by foreign companies that operate in every sector, with more relevance for those which work in manufacturing (such as textile, agri-food, construction, demolition, and packaging) and are:

•Actors which need their waste or by-products to be disposed of;
•Actors that can transport waste products and materials;
•Actors that are able to recover and transform waste into by-products and secondary raw materials;
•Actors that can use these materials for new production cycles.

Through the platform, companies can find the next node of the supply chain which is missing for implementing a real circular economy process.

Furthermore, this start-up has a young multi-disciplinary and skilled team, with two women founders, a general manager with decades of experience in IT, environment, and energy sectors, one senior proposals consultant, a group of IT professionals, plus several experts in materials engineering, physics, environment, law, and economics.

With the aim of broadening the offer on the platform and consequently the positive socio-economic impact on the environment, the company seeks international partners under a license agreement, having as object the right to use the platform.

Advantages & innovations Cooperation plus value: The platform connects all the players involved in the circular economy into a complete system, where companies draw the raw materials needed in their production cycle from the production waste of others’ supply chains. Waste is characterized as material and material flows are underlined; this way, companies can reach resource efficiency and gain reliability towards clients.Moreover, the company is part of a bigger group and has access to a broad range of competencies, knowledge (legal and technical), and infrastructures (pilot sites for textile and construction and demolition waste valorization). Stage of development Cooperation stage dev stage: Already on the market Partner sought Cooperation area: The framework of the proposed cooperation is to be identified in a license agreement.Ideal partners are companies from the textile, agri-food, construction, demolition, and packaging sectors. The partners would use the platform to find potential collaborators; at the same time, the partners would participate in enlarging the database by inserting their own profile and offers for industrial symbiosis. Type and size Cooperation task: SME 11-50,SME 500 MNE,251-500,SME 51-250,>500
