COMPOSICIÓN Y PROCESO DE OBTENCIÓN DE UN MATERIAL POLIMÉRICO RETARDANTE AL FUEGO UTILIZANDO FIBRAS DE COLÁGENO.

The present invention relates to the composition and process for obtaining a polymeric material with fire retardant properties that meet the fire-retardant classification according to the UL94-V method (ASTM D2801 standard). Said material is from the reactive extrusion process, using specific components to improve mechanical properties, applying a specific rotational speed, and mixing temperature profile to disperse and distribute the components in the polymer matrix. Also, it consists of a thermoplastic polymer as a polymer matrix, collagen fibers derived from the aluminum leather tanning process, and a commercial fire retardant additive free of toxic compounds (halogenated). Additionally, it uses collagen fibers as a synergistic fire-retardant additive, which reduces the consumption of a commercial additive and improves fire retardancy by reducing the heat emission rate and total heat issued to the composite polymeric material with only the commercial fire retardant additive. Said m aterial is beneficial for producing parts through plastic transformation processes, such as injection or compression molding, for applications in the automotive industry using waste from the tanning industry (collagen fibers) to obtain a fire-retardant polymeric material that contributes to creating a circular economy in the region and the country.
