Hexcel to supply composite materials for new Airbus helicopter

Advanced composite materials company Hexcel Corp is extending its 40-year partnership with Airbus Helicopters, supplying materials for the new H160 helicopter.

In a 22 June announcement on the sidelines of Paris Air Show, held 19-25 June, Hexcel said its reinforcements, prepregs, adhesives and honeycomb materials had been selected for the H160’s composite fuselage structures and main rotor blades.

The H160 was designed by Airbus Helicopters to create added value for customers in terms of performance, economic competitiveness, safety and comfort.

The Hexcel’s composite materials will be used throughout the structure will contribute to the lightweight fuel-saving design and performance optimisation of the rotorcraft.

H160 configurations in development include offshore transportation, business and private aviation, emergency medical services, public services, and commercial passenger transport.

The helicopter is planned to enter into service in 2019.
