Sadara starts up fourth plastics plant, to supply materials for major automotive project
Sadara Chemical Company started up its fourth and final polyethylene unit, the high pressure low density polyethylene (HP-LDPE) train on 27 April, the company has announced.
The HP-LDPE train joins the two linear low density PE trains (PE Trains 1 & 2) and the one elastomers train (PE Train 4), which came on stream over the last 15 months, to complete the company’s plastics plants.
"The products from the plastics plants will provide feedstocks which will support the development of secondary and tertiary manufacturing investments in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia," said Ziad Al-Labban, Sadara CEO.
Sadara’s “plastics plants” produce “highly-specialised” grades of plastic products.
PE Train 3 is one of 26 manufacturing units located within the multi-billion dollar Sadara Chemical Complex in Jubail Industrial City II, Saudi Arabia.
In addition to exports, Sadara’s products will be used for downstream applications by investors located in the nearby PlasChem Park in Jubail.
In February, the chemical company announced signing a cooperation agreement with Saudi National Automobiles Manufacturing Co. (SNAM) for the supply of speciality chemicals and plastics for SNAM’s planned automotive manufacturing cluster in Al-Jubail, Saudi Arabia.
Under the agreement, Sadara will work with SNAM’s Auto Cluster “tenants” who will include car parts manufacturing companies – primarily OEMs and automotive tier-1 and tier-2 manufacturers.
