Improved Biobased Fibers for Different Textile Appilcations: Clothing and Automotive Sectors

Polylactic acid (PLA) is acknowledged to be more environmentally-friendly polymer than polyethylene terephthalate. The fundamental polymer chemistry of PLA allows control of certain fiber properties and makes it suitable for a wide variety of textile applications. However, its lowthermal resistance—it softens at a temperature around 55°C—limits its use in applications like clothing or car interior.
